The month of Aadi
The month of aadi (Mid July to Mid August) is considered very auspicious amongst Tamils in South India. This tamil month marks the beginning of all festivals during the festival season. The word Aadi is derived from the Sanskrit word aash-adi. Aadi falls during the second half of the year known as Dakshinayanam when the Sun transits from the northern hemisphere to the Southern during July.
This whole month is special for the feminine powers that exists in this galaxy which is symbolized in various forms of "Ammans".
"Amman" or "Shakti" is the primordial cosmic energy that moves through the entire universe. It is the personification of divine feminine creative power referred to as 'The Great Divine Mother' inVedic traditions. The month of Aadi is considered very auspicious to connect oneself to this Divine power.
Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays of this tamil calendar month are auspicious. Fridays witness a lot of specially organized festivities in the rural parts with chanting of mantras and devotional songs, people visiting temples and organizing community services. The whole state of Tamil nadu buzzes with activity with stores offering good deals to draw customers and boost sales, etc.
Devout Hindus visit temples and perform special pujas on the Fridays. The Aadi Velli is of great significance to women as numerous rituals are performed in the month. Majority of the people also worship snakes during the month.
Other auspicious days include 'Aadi Pandigai' (the first day of the month), 'Thiru-aadi-pooram' (the birth day of Aandaal - one of the 12 aazhwaars), 'Varalakshmi Pooja' ( Married women participate in this pooja for prosperity and well being of their family members), 'Aadi amavasai' (auspicious to perform memorial services to our ancestors), 'Aadi perukku' (18th day from the beginning of the calendar month marked to celebrate the free flow of the river Cauvery), 'Aadi Kruthigai' (for Lord Muruga).
Well this month is NOT considered auspicious for weddings and newly weds. Some newly-wed brides go to their maternal homes for a whole month (vacation). The legend goes like if a child is conceived during this phase Jul-Aug, the child will be born around Apr-May which is summer and not the ideal time to have a baby because of the heat. But, with the advent of air con’s, greater medical care and luxury travel this might be passe. Nevertheless, the legend continues.
Also other functions like Housewarming, shifting to a new house, are avoided. The logic that elders back home give is that, during this month, because we perform tarpanams during this month. However, I liked one logic that my friend once gave me. "All auspicious functions have oil lamps burning. During Aadi, the winds are strongest. If during the ceremony the wind blows and the lamps get blowed off or any other similar thing happens, people would consider it as unauspicious. Why take the risk?"
Well, Aadi is special for me, as I get something new to wear during fridays (if not all fridays, atleast on one). And I generally feel more religious during Fridays of Aadi, Thai and Navrathri.
Special days for Special people I guess!!

In general - Nothing stops in the corporate world. Only the traditional businesses of real estate has an impact.
Some feel that after Adi ammavasai, or Adi 18th it is good to pursue any new deal.
As is, I have submitted many business proposals during this month. Personally nothing has happened negatively.
It is just a tendency of the mind.
If you are still confused - there is also this tradition of asking the God for a Go ahead or Stop signal (using flowers or Kumkum) - just to pacify the mind. You could try that as well.
Wish you loads of good Luck and God's choicest blessings.
Thank you

Please let me know
House warming, moving into a new house..nothing is actually forbidden. It is actually logics and people's belief, mind set and acceptance.
If you have already performed a Housewarming - to consider moving in during month of Adi - see if this appeals to your mind and heart: As per popular customs, you would have already stayed overnight and the kitchen has been utilised with the milk being boiled. (I am presuming you have followed some hindu customs here. If you belong to a different faith, please consider the rituals followed according to your custom). Therefore, there is nothing wrong according to me to move in to a new house.
Another question about baby birth - That is natural and cannot be withheld. Considering a child born in the month of Adi as inauspicious is ridiculous. The earlier concept of avoiding giving birth in Adi was the mother concerned will be having lesser help as the people around would be busy with sowing activity in fields and with festivals around the time, cleaning and other cultural activities would be involved which is not hygienic or safe for the child. But the same analogy cannot be applied to the prevailing time frame.
